Got A New Client
I have landed a new computer book publisher client. They’re big. I have accepted my first job. It looks boring as HELL, but I successfully negotiated a higher per-page rate than what they offered me. I expect it to be a struggle. Doing the job might kill me, but at least I’ll earn a chunk of money. I am happy to have one more client egg in my basket. The couple that were in there were looking mighty lonely and small.

Congratulations! It probably will be boring as hell and grindy, but it must be nice to have a little bit of added security in these uncertain times.
I don’t know if you realize how much I admire you for fighting for your rate and working so hard to keep this lifestyle choice viable.

Thanks, honey. Yes, added security is a nice thing. And if I have to do “boring and grindy,” well, I’ll buckle down and do it.
Wow. I have a “lifestyle”? That sounds so sexy!

Internet research led to leads, whom I spammed with my résumé and refs. One person passed me onto a division within the company who is in charge of only computer books. We started exchanging emails last June. Then I had to fill out a bunch of vendor application forms, but at least I didn’t have to take a bleeping exam! Then I waited for 6 months for an offer, touching bases with the guy periodically. In December they offered me a project a week before Christmas, due by New Year’s. I turned it down due to other commitments. Then, I waited another 2 months for another offer. Ta da!
The same strategy on dozens of other possible leads led exactly nowhere.
