Welcome
Welcome to my website, friends. Come in and sit down. Have a cup of coffee or a margarita.
This is where you’ll find the musings of a 42-year-old mother of two boys living in Fair Oaks, California. This is where I explore the issues of being a woman, a mother, a wife, and a professional editor and writer. This is where I write about living, loving, and engaging fully in family life and the world around me. I let my hair down here. I learn new skills here. I strive to be a better human being here. And I tell the truth.
We are educating our children in the Waldorf philosophy, but we also have our feet firmly in the world. We are aiming for a peaceful, balanced family life, where all members’ needs are considered and met. We are gloriously imperfect, walking our path together and pouring our love into every step.
I am a HUGE FAN of:
- breastfeeding
- cosleeping
- babywearing
- health care reform
- marriage equality
- green living
- homeschooling, although it is not our choice
- Waldorf education
- elimination communication, or ec
- playing in the earth and water
- making things by hand
- CSA and organic foods
- tolerance
- peace
- science
- reading
- life-long learning
- making mistakes
- artistic exploration and skill building
- painting and photography
Please read for a while and leave me a comment. Come back often. I love, love, love comments. I do my best to reply to everyone. This blog is a labor of love born out of a need for self-expression, but it has also brought me new friends from many lands. If there’s some topic you’d like to see covered here at Love in the Suburbs, please drop me a line.

Hi Sara! This new website is fabulous. Looks like your son went to CSUS Aquatics camp…wasn’t it great?
You and I have a lot in common, based on your list above! I hope to meet you soon…maybe at Babetta’s for a class.

Hi Sara,
First, I LOVE your blog! I’m a semi-stay-at-home dad of one little boy, and I relate strongly to the joys and challenges you describe on your blog: meeting expectations, staying faithful to core values, and having fun along the way. As a parent attempting to live an intentional lifestyle, I find your insight (and craft/activity ideas!) inspiring.
I wanted to let you know about a project I’m starting that I think you and your readers (and your kids!) will be interested in. It’s called DrawSticker, and it’s an online service that lets parents like us turn their kids’ art into an awesome sticker for their car window. I created DrawSticker so that parents could express the essence of their family in a way that’s truly unique—that no pre-designed sticker, no matter how cute, really can.
Since I started DrawSticker I’ve been amazed by the creativity of the kids who’ve participated. I would love to give you the opportunity to try out DrawSticker (free of cost!) and to see what your boys create. Start at http://www.drawsticker.com to see how it works, then send me an email and I’ll set you up with a promo code.
Thanks for checking it out!
