100 Salad Summer

100 Salad Summer #100saladsummer

I’ve decided to do a challenge that I’ve just made up for myself. I’m going to eat 100 salads this summer (it’s got a nice ring to it: #100saladsummer). I don’t diet very well. I am totally committed one moment and then, as soon as I’m hungry, my commitment usually vanishes. So usually I don’t diet. Which is a fine trend that I don’t really care to try to break. And I don’t have time to research the latest food thing. But I started thinking it would be better to eat fewer burritos (my weakness) and more salads. So. This.

These are my rules for myself:
1. They are meal salads, which means they can have meat or other protein or fat or dairy or carbs like croutons or quinoa, but they must be mostly vegetables.

What do you think? Join me? Encourage me?

New Energy

New year, new energy. That’s my goal. Although it pains me to realize/know/say/type it, the truth is that I’ve been neglecting my physical well-being for months now. And although I absolutely hate being or living a cliché, the truth is that it now, January, seems time to do something about it. I seem forever able to (kind of) balance either work and fitness, or work and family, or family and fitness, but never all three at once. I’m hoping that Asher’s downhill slide into age 4 will sort of tip the scale a bit in the direction of more free time for mama. So, today marks the start of my (our) new diet and exercise plan. Woo hoo!

There. I said it out loud. Maybe that will help. I am glad to have Ian striving by my side in this.

Hallelujah JEANS!

This morning I put on my favorite pair of jeans in the whole world. They fit.

Exciting Diet Stuff

I love Dr. Atkins.

We are 1 month and 3 weeks into our low-carb diet. We indulged in extra carbs on Christmas day, but then went right back to it. I have lost 14 pounds. I have met my first goal. I would love to lose about 5 more pounds, but am very, very satisfied with my progress. If those last few pounds come off gradually but steadily, I’ll be thrilled. We are no longer on induction, but are trying not to eat too many carbs in any given day.

Ian’s really done well. I won’t reveal his stats, but let’s just say they are impressive. He has really taken to our new way of eating and says he feels fantastic. What’s more, he has been inspired to try new recipes and new foods. His cooking is wonderful and he cooks for me all the time! We have recently enjoyed salmon with hollandaise sauce; scallops with leeks and spinach; omelets with bacon, sour cream, and green onions; steaks; chicken stir fry; and much more. Go Ian, go Ian!

I’ve been walking more and am thinking about investigating a personal trainer.
