Dearest had a birthday while we were in Hawaii. I was lucky enough to reach him on the phone that day from the top of Waihe’e Ridge Trail in the middle of a cloud 2,000 feet above sea level. Mars is charming, funny, and kind. A gentleman. The best of men you’ll ever have the good fortune to meet. The kind of guy you want your sons to hang out with, to learn from. I love you, and I thank my lucky stars to have you in my life. I hope your birthday was grand.
I recently missed the birthday (Jan 11) of the lovely , someone whom I adore but almost never see. Distance and time do not diminish my regard for her in any way. She is talented, determined, and brilliant beyond compare—and in ways that boggle my mind. These last few years have had us operating in different spheres, but I do fervently wish our worlds to collide again someday so that I make drink in her smile and gentle voice. Happy belated birthday, dear. I hope it was wonderful.
And, this past Saturday was the birthday of sweet , who is someone I do see fairly often and whose life with kids resonates with my own experience. Parnasus never fails to have a tender word, an offer of help, a friendly cocktail, or concrete advice. She can make, as far as I can tell, just about anything. She is happy to teach you how to do it, too. She manages to maintain a calm in the face of chaos most of the time, and if you are lucky enough to be loved by her, as I am, you know down to your toes that you are loved, for you see it in everything she does. I love you, darling. And happy birthday! I hope the fishes blew kisses to you this weekend!

Thank you sweetie, you are too kind. I love you too.
I think the Sun Fish was blowing me kisses, as I was the only one not pointing and laughing at him, poor little (Gianormous) Sun Fish ;p
Love!!
