In Better Shape Than Most Years

We Wilsons are doing great with our Christmas preparations.

Something about having a weekend before the actual DAY has been really helpful. We scaled back our buying this year (with regret, as we would like to give the whole world wrapped in a pretty red bow to our loved ones). We are done shopping. We are at least three-fourths of the way wrapped. I really like this part, because usually I’m wrapping gifts the hour before I see the recipients.

The house is clean, thanks to Maria and Betty Housekeeping Services. Three beautiful Mexican-American ladies showed up on Thursday and spent 4 hours cleaning. I worked all day picking up and putting a thousand things away about three steps ahead of them so they could do the grimey work. I tried not to be embarrassed about the state of my house. I tipped them when they left. The beauty of this is that I will not spend my Christmas day scrubbing toilets and mopping the kitchen in anticipation of our party that night.

The food is ordered and paid for. We have to make a couple of dishes (one for VoVo’s house and one for my parents’ house) for Christmas day, but that’s no big deal. All of this has been a well-planned effort not to stress out this year. My hope for the holidays this year is to be able to ENJOY them with my husband and my children. Tomorrow, the big thing on the agenda before an evening of sushi and present is to bake cookies for Santa.

Today we made it to services at the Unitarian Universolist Society of Sacramento, where we are members, for the first time in many months. It has been too hard to go there on Sunday mornings with a new baby around, but Asher actually did great there this morning (he slept in his Ergo for most of the time), so we might be going more often again. I have missed it, and today’s service was fun and relaxing.

We are thinking of friends near and far and hoping everyone has a safe and joyous holiday.
