Tidoo

I’ve already written about how Lucas’s dolly, Tidoo, has become a very active part of our family. I learn more and more about her every day. She leads a rather enviable life.

Tidoo has an uncle who has a farm. Every morning, Tidoo gets to go to the barn and touch the cows. Then she rides on them! The uncle also has bunnies. His bunnies are pretty talented. When Tidoo tickles them, they do backflips.

Tidoo goes camping a lot. She also has birthdays about every two days. One day last week, Tidoo had a birthday while Lucas was at school. She and all her friends got to go to Funderland and ride on the rides but Lucas didn’t get to go.

Tidoo’s mom and dad live far away. I think she simply prefers living with Lucas and us. Tidoo’s father has black eyes!

Tidoo eats bowls full of ketchup. She can roller skate. Tidoo’s grandma and grandpa died.

She likes to nurse, and she drinks “sister milk” from Lucas’s tiny nipples. She likes to ride around inside Lucas’s shirt, with her head peeking up over his collar. Lucas takes very good care of her and teaches her about owies and band-aids, riding ponies, and feeding fish.

Ha! Ha! I was reading along thinking how adorable all that is, until I got to the “sister milk” part. What the? Okay, it’s still adorable, but now it’s hilarious too! Thanks for sharing. Lucas’s imagination always puts a smile on my face.

Lucas is Tidoo’s big sister. Therefore, he cannot supply her with “mama milk,” only “sister milk.”

When I was breastfeeding Lucas, I always referred to it either as “nursing” or “having mama milk.” (Some people use nonsense words like “num-num” because they think such words are cute and easy for a baby to say, and perhaps also because some moms don’t want their kids to shout “Mom, give me some titty!” in public. I used the term “mama milk” because we were signing with Lucas and he had a sign for milk that he could do at about 10 months. That soon turned into him signing “milk, please.” I thought that was an acceptable way for him to ask. Of course, he learned to talk long before we gave up having mama milk. 🙂

This is probably more information than you wanted to know.

Thanks! That’s a real compliment coming from someone who works with Waldorf children all the time.

(My MIL doesn’t read my journal, but sometimes I send her Lucas stories.)

“I think Tidoo is who Lucas would like to be if you pulled out all the stops!! Great alter ego. Ian had Tom and Blinky. Tom was the good older brother that was helpful and kind to little brothers. Tom always did the right thing. Tom gave good advice.

“Blinky was the flip side of Tom. Blinky always “did it” when I asked what happened! Blinky ran away when he was in trouble so I could never confront him and neither could Ian. Blinky was more of a playmate than Tom. I think Blinky came before Tom in the scheme of things. Enjoy it now because at some point, these characters go away and are internalized. One day you will just notice that he hasn’t spoken of them and Tidoo is in the closet on the top shelf.”
